Q: What is unique about AbbVie's work in oncology?
A: I think what makes AbbVie unique is our unrelenting focus on having the best scientists focused on delivering meaningful advances. We have an extraordinary set of individuals who have the ability to understand the shapes and sizes of molecules and how to design drugs to interact with those molecules. It's their willingness to explore that biology and to use whatever tools are necessary that characterizes every aspect of what we do.
Gary Gordon, M.D., Ph.D.
Vice President, Global Oncology Development
Q: Why do you think collaboration is such an essential element of the fight against cancer at AbbVie?
A: Cancer cells are constantly evolving and it takes the smartest minds in oncology to find effective ways to eliminate them. There are spectacular chemists in the world. There are spectacular biologists in the world. But it's actually mixing scientists from various backgrounds and thinking about problems together that leads to the most interesting solutions. This is what we are doing here at AbbVie, bringing together the best scientists around the world to find innovative solutions to the most difficult challenges.
Vice President, Oncology Discovery
Q: Why do you think the work AbbVie is doing in oncology is important?
A: Providing patients with a meaningful drug is what it is all about, but drug discovery is a difficult endeavor. Starting a research program is like beginning to climb a mountain where you can't see the peak – you know it's going to be challenging, but the question is how challenging. It's really exciting when we get to a place where we can actually start to look at how broadly we may be able to help patients.
Saul Rosenberg, Ph.D.
Senior Director of Oncology Research
Q: What should US healthcare professionals know about AbbVie's work in oncology?
A: Breakthroughs in cancer research can only happen when there is a strong collaborative effort between all facets of the healthcare and scientific community. At AbbVie, we believe deeply in this concept. That's why we strive to provide resources and education that support healthcare professionals to better understand the work AbbVie is doing in oncology. By sharing information and insights, providing access to clinical trials, and working closely with research partners, we all become better equipped to discover and develop new approaches and molecules that can make a transformational improvement in cancer treatment.
